A bi-monthly head to head competition - two restaurants, one dish. Help me decide which should be the top dog in town! Every other Friday I'll post a new face off. Within the next two weeks, eat the same dish at one or both restaurants and post your reviews. Then I'll add up the results and announce the winner!

The main point of this battle is to help me decide which dish will effectively tide me over until I can get to Tsujita again. So that's my gold standard - fair or not.
ReplyDeleteTaste: 7/10 Nice smokey barbecue flavor to the broth and the green onions offered a bright and fresh contrast. The noodles and meat were both a bit under seasoned for my taste. I wish there were a sharper (hot mustard, picked ginger, etc) note to round out the flavors.
Texture: 7/10 The soft egg added an enjoyable creamy texture to the broth and the crispness of the onions again gave the requisite contrast. the burnt ends were a high note, but some of the fat on the sliced pork could have been crisped up and been made a bit more palatable.
Presentation: 9/10 It looked great! Colorful and interesting.
Creative/Authentic: 7/10 Moto i is definitely trying to give us the real thing here and it definitely reminded me of noodles I had in Japan. Unfortunately, I think the flavors needed to be a bit more developed to really achieve the authentic stamp.
Wild Card: Bulgogi Sliders 9/10 A great appetizer not only satiates but stimulates the palate for the food to come. Well seasoned beef, crispy buns, and pickled onions - a creative take on a bar favorite that made me excited to get my ramen!
